Mrs. Cindy Smith
Pre-School and Pre-Kindergarten at GCCA is a time of new beginnings for our new academy friends. Although learning the alphabet and its sounds as well as counting and memorizing scripture are a part of every day together, large doses of play and fun activities are a key component of Mrs. Smith’s lesson plans. Mrs. Smith has been guiding our academy’s youngest students for more than two decades and continues to provide exciting thematic units that students recall for a life time. Mrs. Smith is married to Pastor Boyd Smith and has three grown children and two grandsons.
Mrs. Alice Wiley
Mrs. Wiley is a graduate of Grove City College with a B.S. in Christian Thought and Biology. She is the mother of four GCCA students and served as a counselor/parent at George Junior Republic for over 10 years and the Christian Education director at Rocky Grove Ave Presbyterian Church. Throughout her many years at GCCA, she has helped in a variety of ways such as chapel pianist, substitute teacher and currently is our lunch aide. Mrs. Wiley and her husband Gary live in the Grove City area and attend the Cochranton Community Church.
Mrs. Jamie Good
Mrs. Beth Rodes
Mrs. Beth Rodes has over 5 years of teaching experience with lower elementary students. She graduated from Liberty University having earned a B.S. in Psychology with a concentration in child/adolescent psychology. She has also worked as a consultant for Saxon Publishing. She is the mother of three daughters. She is a member of Grace Anglican in Slippery Rock where her husband Eric serves as the assistant minister.
Miss Charity Dawson
Charity Dawson serves as the Second Grade Teacher at GCCA. She has been teaching for fourteen years. She previously taught Latin at Stratford Classical Christian Academy in New Jersey and at Veritas Academy in Lancaster, PA. Miss Dawson has studied at Camden County College, Penn State University, and the University of North Carolina-Charlotte. Her language studies include travel abroad to study French at the Ecole France Langue in Nice, France, and to study Latin at the Accademia Vivarium Novum in Rome, Italy.
Mrs. Nancy Spears
Mrs. Spears received a B.A. in Elementary Education and a Masters of Education from Westminster College in New Wilmington, PA. Mrs. Spears has been teaching at GCCA for over ten years. Her love and expertise in reading instruction will be evident as she teaches students about God’s hand in history in the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, and the Reformation period. While reading a variety of great literature, students will also participate in exciting activities that compliment these great stories. Mrs. Spears also serves as the head teacher. Nancy and her husband Todd have four children and live in Grove City, PA.
Mrs. Lisa Schulter
If the smell of paint is in the air, it must be Auction time, which means Mrs. Lisa Schulter, our artistic fourth grade teacher, is working on her annual contribution: a themed, beautifully hand-painted piece of furniture! Mrs. Schulter came to GCCA in 2005 after serving as an administrator at another Christian school. A secondary education graduate of Slippery Rock University, she spent several years teaching fourth grade at a Christian school in Maryland before returning to the area to marry her husband, Tim. As the fourth graders learn about colonial American history and Pennsylvania history, they can count on Mrs. Schulter (a member of Phi Alpha Theta history honorary) to lead them on adventures to local historical sites such as the Old Stone House.
Mr. Michael Acquavita
Mr. Erik Covert
Mr. Covert is a graduate of Grove City College having earned a B. A. in History and Secondary Education. He grew up in Harrisville, PA and attended GCCA from Kindergarten through Eighth Grade. He is active in his church where he serves as a deacon and the assistant Sunday school superintendent. This is his first year teaching and he looks forward to helping the 6th grade class and the logic students grow in their knowledge and understanding of the wonders of God’s creation.
Mr. Ross Kucks
Ross Kucks is the seventh and eighth grade teacher at GCCA. He also teaches Latin and the great books at The Trinitas Study Center. He earned a B.A. in English with a minor in French from Grove City College where he was involved in both music and drama productions. Here he also played drums for the chapel worship band, sang in the Touring Choir, and was involved in three theater productions. While studying at Grove City, he also led a bible study for juvenile delinquents at a nearby institution for several semesters, helped edit a literary magazine, and participated in the school’s orientation board for three semesters. During his summers, he worked as a counselor at a Christian camp in New Hampshire, which included two mission trips to Panama to lead youth camps there. He also traveled on a mission trip to Uganda and participated in a missions training program, street evangelism, and rural outreach. More recently he has traveled on a mission trip to Trinidad, volunteered as a counselor at a Young Life Camp, and worked with a homeless ministry in Philadelphia. He enjoys playing drums, writing, reading, camping, and hiking.
Miss Annie Laurie Holfelder
Mrs. Jodi Sloan
From the fundamentals of basketball to the techniques of Frisbee golf, Mrs. Sloan keeps one thing before her students, play hard! Mrs. Sloan has served as our P.E. teacher for grades 1st-8th since 2005. She is also an active participant in our Booster Club, organizing and leading our Funnel Cake booth during the summer months at various community events.
Mrs. Amy Stauff
Mrs. Amy Stauff as our art teacher and coordinator of our Spring art show. She is a graduate of Kutztown University of Pennsylvania having earned a B.S. in Art Education. She has experience teaching both younger and older students in a variety of settings and recognizes that importance of establishing strong drawing skills with our youngest art students. In addition to these duties, she will also be organizing GCCA’s Student Art Exhibit. She and her husband, Dr. Devin Stauff and their three children Isaiah, Owen and Mabel are residents of Grove City and attend Christ Presbyterian Church.
